At the walkathon...

On Saturday, November 21st, Fannie Mae successfully held its 22nd annual Help the Homeless Walkathon in Washington, D.C. The walk, which begins on the National Mall, is a 5K traverse that raises awareness about one of the biggest problems plaguing our society. If you’re not aware of the startling statistics, check this out…

National Homelessness Statistics

  • Across the U.S., 675,000 people are homeless on any given night
  • Over the course of a year, 2.5 – 3.5 million people will experience at least one night of homelessness
  • 42% of children in families experiencing homelessness are age 5 and under

Most people are probably not aware of these statistics (I wasn’t), and I wonder what other cities are doing to help the situation.

City Year is always ready!

City Year is always ready!

What are some things that you can do to help the homeless?

Special thanks to Daniel L. and Georgina S., current City Year corps members, who helped organize our team and wore those awesome red jackets with pride!
